Ferrite Testing

Ferrite Testing is a rapid non-destructive method used to measure the ferrite content of stainless steel welds and components. Using a calibrated handheld instrument, NNDT technicians can determine the magnetic ferrite content and report the result as a Ferrite Number or percentage. Controlling ferrite content is important in stainless steel welding because the correct balance between ferrite and austenite can influence weld integrity, resistance to hot cracking, mechanical properties and corrosion performance. Ferrite testing provides clients with immediate verification that welded components meet specified material and fabrication requirements.
