Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)

Dye Penetrant Testing (PT) is a highly sensitive method for detecting surface-breaking discontinuities in both metallic and non-metallic, non-porous materials. A penetrant is applied to the prepared surface and allowed to enter any surface-connected discontinuities through capillary action. Following removal of excess penetrant and application of a developer, defects become visible as clear indications. NNDT utilises PT for applications including welds, castings, machined components and fabricated structures, providing clients with an effective and economical means of identifying surface defects before they develop into more significant failures.
